What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is a streamlined immigration program developed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to attract skilled workers for permanent residency. It manages applications under three key programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)- For skilled workers with foreign or Canadian work experience. Criteria include education, language ability, and adaptability.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) - For workers qualified in a skilled trade. Requires a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification in Canada.
Entering & Canadian Experience Class (CEC) - For skilled workers with eligible Canadian work experience gained within the last three years.
How Does Express Entry Work?
The process for Express Entry involves three main stages:
- Eligibility Check:Ensure you meet the criteria for one or more of the Express Entry programs.
- Pool Ranking:Eligible candidates are ranked in the pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded for factors such as age, education, work experience, and language proficiency.
- Invitation to Apply:IRCC conducts regular draws to invite the highest-ranked candidates to apply for permanent residency. Invitations are based on your CRS score relative to the cutoff score of each draw.
Note: Completing a profile or being in the pool does not guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
Step-by-Step Process for Express Entry
-
Assess your qualifications, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors to confirm your eligibility.
-
Calculate Your CRS Score:
Submit your profile and get ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Factors considered include skills, work experience, education, and language proficiency in English/French.
-
Collect Required Documents:
Gather documents such as language test results (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF), educational credential assessments (ECA), proof of funds, passport, etc.
-
Create and Submit Your Profile:
Submit your profile to IRCC, providing detailed information about your skills, work history, and education. IRCC will determine your eligibility and place you in the candidate pool.

IRCC conducts regular draws, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITA) to the highest-ranking candidates. Once invited, you’ll have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency.
-
Apply for Permanent Residence:
